Some of Handel’s most celebrated music is featured in this opera. Then, I’m particularly excited to introduce you to Hertzberg’s The Rose Elf, based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. The music of this opera sparkles and shimmers. Audience members who love the music of Ravel, Debussy, and Richard Strauss are sure to enjoy this opera. I’d love to see you at the Lincoln Performance Hall in August for this thrilling new season!”

Libretto by Nicola Giuvo based on the myth from Ovid’s Metamorphoses

Saturday, August 3 at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 4 at 3pm

The great love between Acis and Galatea has been the subject of poems, paintings, operas, and statues throughout the centuries. When the jealous cyclops Polyphemus becomes crazed by his unrequited love for the sea-nymph Galatea, he kills her beloved, the mortal Acis. Devastated, Galatea transforms Acis into a river in which she can live with him, forever united. Ultimately, in this timeless myth, love endures and overcomes all, even death. This great love story is "a celebration of Handel's inexhaustible genius."

The Rose Elf

A tiny elf, who lives within a rose in a large garden, witnesses a violent murder. Forever changed—moved, bewildered, affected—the elf strives to give comfort and closure to the victim's beloved. The incredibly rich world of Hans Christian Andersen's fantastical tale is brought to vivid life by the music of David Hertzberg, hailed as "an absolute phenomenon. Such lush, decadent musical passages and ecstatic vocal lines I've rarely heard from a young composer.
